RUSTY’S HITCHHIKING ADVENTURE
Rusty the cheeky Australian terrier is home safe in the arms of his loving family after hitchhiking 1500km with a truckie, all the way from Queensland to South Australia, last month.
His Goondiwindi owners were on holiday when the bold three-year-old snuck away from his babysitters, ran out to the highway, and stowed away in the undercarriage of a truck headed for Snowtown.
When truck driver Paul Mcdowell found Rusty along the way, he took the pooch home and called the number on his tag.
The news came as no surprise to owner Laura Scudamore, who’s used to her pup’s hitchhiking habit.
“Last time we went away, he hitched a ride to Chinchilla [250km away],” she said. “He’s really upped the ante this time, making it all the way to South Australia. He’s very friendly and would jump in the car with anyone who gave him some attention.”
Paul and his family took care of Rusty until the Scudamores returned, and pet travel company Jetpets escorted the famous pooch home, where he received a warm welcome from Eliza, five and Sam, two.
“We are very excited he’s home – the kids are super-excited!” Laura says.
