OPERATION NEST EGG

Cape Sanctuary protects and helps repopulate the endangered kiwi, and for my first morning in the beautiful headlands, we set out with a monitor and a guide to track down a newly released baby. As well as finding him, I held him, checked his weight and fell in love!

TRACK DOWN THE GANNET

Cape Kidnappers is home to the largest, most accessible mainland colony of this beautiful and large bird with a wingspan of close to two metres. I expected a big seagull – what I got was an oil painting.
