The culture’s spellbinding
Ahuriri Estestuary is a national treasure, and for a personal encounter with Maori culture, I took a walking tour with family business Napier Maori Tours. Wearing supplied gumboots, I trekked riverside observing traditional Maori food-gathering before lunching on lobster, scallop, abalone and other delicacies while learning about the local music and its instruments. You’ll also see loads of sea creatures and birds. The boardwalk is a great way to explore the estuary. See napiermaoritours.co.nz for more details.
