Sophie & Stu

It’s over

-

Igave it the best shot I could... but unfortunately it just didn’t work out,” wrote a heartbroken Sophie Monk last week as she came clean on her romance with Stu Laundy.

But rather than being given the chance to move on, the unluckyin-love Bachelorette star, 38, became the victim of cruel swipes on behalf of her ex-boyfriend.

While Stu claimed he found out they’d broken up via Instagram, a close friend of the pub mogul says the pair first split as far back ck as mid-december, before getting ng back together and breaking up again after their Canadian ski holiday. It’s also been claimed Sophie’s constant partying was the reason for the split, which her manager has denied.

“Sophie loves to party, loves to have a drink and a cigarette, and has made no secret of that,” says Stu’s mate. “In the end, it became a bit much for Stu. He tried to get her to slow down a bit, have the odd night on the couch, but Sophie wasn’t interested.”

Now a source says Stu, 45, was simply stringing Sophie along to promote himself professionally, and would even call her nasty nicknames while complaining about the relationship to friends.

“He was always only in it for the fame,” says the source. “He strung out their relationship for weeks because he wanted to use her name to help promote his new pub, but he was different behind her back, calling her a ‘cockroach’ in text messages, which friends took to mean she was always coming back for more.”

Sophie and Stu put on a united front in Canada over the holidays but, as revealed in Woman’s Day, the couple had a booze-fuelled argument on Christmas Eve and Stu moved to another hotel.

Sophie’s good friend, radio host Kyle Sandilands, said the two had been at breaking point for some time. “I was talking to [Sophie] before Christmas and I knew it was tough… they weren’t getting on that great,” he told listeners. “She told me she’s given it a red-hot crack… but she was telling me, ‘Look, I like him, but he vanishes for a couple of days at a time.’

“I know what [men] are doing when they vanish for a couple of days at a time,” Kyle commented. “Getting away from you!”
