Her blackmail hell

With her career back on track, and looking and feeling better than ever, Casey Donovan has been riding high in recent months. But that all came crashing down when a close friend did the unthinkable – texting the singer an ominous blackmail message.

A shaken Casey headed straight to her local police station to hand over the message, which has been described as “threatening”.

“Police attached to Bankstown Local Area Command commenced an investigation, following reports from a 29-year-old woman that she was allegedly being blackmailed,” an official statement from NSW Police read. “Following enquiries, a 33-year-old man was arrested at a home in Lalor Park just after midnight on Tuesday January 23. He was taken to Bankstown Police station and charged with blackmail and using carriage services to menace.”

While no further details have been released on the man’s identity, Casey’s agent Renee Hansen has confirmed to Woman’s Day that she is indeed the 29-year-old woman in question and that her formerly close friend will face court on February 7.

It’s not the first time Casey has been the victim of people close to her. In 2014, the season two Australian Idol winner revealed she’d been part of an elaborate catfishing campaign that lasted six years, falling in love online with a man called “Campbell” who was later found to be a female friend, Olga.

So it’s no surprise the latest betrayal has hit Casey for six. “She’s still in shock at the moment but when she feels stronger she’ll talk about it all,” says a source close to the singer.
