The selfie that led to a conviction
Aselfie helped convict a killer who strangled her best friend to death, because it showed her wearing the murder weapon – a blue belt. Brittney Gargol’s body was found dumped by a road in Saskatoon, Canada, on March 25, 2015. A wide belt was found nearby.
A photo of Brittney, 18, and her best friend Cheyenne Rose Antoine, 21, had been posted to Facebook six hours before the body was discovered. On closer inspection, police noticed the belt Antoine was wearing in the photo was the same belt found by the body, which had been used to strangle Brittney to death.
Antoine admitted in court she got into a heated argument with Brittney during a night ht out drinking but claimed she couldn’t remember mber killing her. After pleading guilty to manslaughter hter last month, she was sentenced to seven years rs behind bars. “I will never forgive myself,” she said in a statement.
