1 Tinder has changed everything on the dating scene. Pre-tinder, at least some random guy would occasionally pay me some attention or throw me some corny pick up-line when I was out at the pub with friends. Now they don’t even bother, because they’ve already got their Tinder dates lined up for later! 2 A “coffee date” always works best for a first date. If it’s terrible, you can escape easily and swiftly. If it goes well, you’ll leave with that wonderfully excited feeling of anticipation for your next date. 3 I don’t believe in love at first s sight. I’ve realised it’s impossible to fall in love w with someone until you know them, warts and all. Most men are pretty good at presenting the “best” version o of themselves for about three months. It’s only then you s start to uncover the real him. 4 My unfortunate dating experiences have s shown me how resilient I am. It would be lovely to meet my Mr Happily Ever After, but I’m proud I’ve been able to create an enjoyable, valuable and meaningful life for myself without a ring on my finger. 5 Don’t take yourself or your dating experiences too seriously. Have a good friend you can share all the laughs with... and please start taking notes after every bad date – and send them all to me for book number two! ROMANTICALLY CHALLENGED by Sami Lukis (Penguin Random House, $32.99) is out now.
