I’m A Celeb… Kerry’s love regrets, Peter’s weight loss

She already has four marriages under her belt, bbut the I’m A Celeb star isn’t done with love

When it comes to her career, much-loved Aussie actress Kerry Armstrong has never played by the rules.

She famously turned down a spot on Saturday Night Live, opting for a role in Shakespeare’s Measure For Measure instead. The decision shocked her agent and, she concedes, may have stopped her from cracking the big time. And the four-times-married actress has proved equally unpredictable in love.

At the age of 23 in 1981, Kerry, who recently turned 60, married Australian Crawl guitarist Brad Robinson. But the marriage was dissolved so Kerry could focus on her career.

“I was incredibly encouraged by Brad, my husband at the time,” Kerry tells Woman’s Day of her early career, which saw her appear in hit US TV shows Dynasty and Murder, She Wrote.

“I have a strong feeling Brad knew that his life was going to be cut short, and that after we w got married he could see what w was happening,” she says of her husband, who tragically died of cancer in 1996 at age 38. “I have a feeling that he helped kind of keep me going.”

After splitting from Brad, Kerry was briefly married to US actor and friend Alexander Bernstein. It was a professional arrangement, suggested by her agent to help Kerry resolve her

visa issues, but it meant she lost the great love of her life, Brad.

“What happened in Hollywood is I kept getting pulled out of play after play after play, and someone pulled Brad aside and said the only reason she can’t work is because you are married and she needs to have a green card,” Kerry revealed on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last week.

“So there was a great deal of pressure on us to not stay married. We had a pact that we would do it for a certain amount of time and get back together. As it is in life, that didn’t work out.”

A brief romance with actor Tim Robbins – they met in 1985 while she was living at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles – ended when she returned to Australia in 1987 after six years in the US. In 1990 she married her third husband, screenwriter Mac Gudgeon, with whom she had a son, Sam, now 27.

That relationship wasn’t made to last, either. But it wasn’t long before Kerry found love again, with builder Mark Croft. In 1996 they had twin sons, Jai and Callum, and were married for five years until 2001.

After this fourth marriage ended, she was in a relationship with barrister Greg Lucas for a while. Now – after years of living as a single woman – Kerry is ready to find love again.

“For the past few years, I’ve loved being by myself, but I love men and I’ve a feeling there’ll be someone standing by my side soon,” she told TV Week.

“After all these test runs with my romantic life, I think my training wheels are finally off.”
