HOLLYWOOD’S LEADING LADIES PLAGUED BY OSCAR LOVE CURSE!

So many of the women who’ve won the Best Actress gong since 1927 have seen their love-life go up in smoke soon after

-

1969 – Barbra Streisand

Barbra was at the height of her career when she won an Oscar for

Funny Girl, yet just two years later, her highprofile marriage to actor Elliott Gould fell apart. Things didn’t end horribly, though, with Barbra, now 75, insisting, “Once you have loved someone they become a part... of what you are.”

1972 – Jane Fonda

Jane’s turn as a prostitute in Klute earned her a gold statue – and the following year, she divorced her husband Roger Vadim. In 2005 – five years after his death – Jane, now 80, lashed out at Roger in her autobiography, calling him “cruel and misogynistic” and revealing he had forced her into group sex.

2005 – Hilary Swank

Her marriage to Chad Lowe survived her first Oscar, but two years after her win for Million

Dollar Baby, the couple called it a day. Having forgotten to mention him the first time, Hilary, 43, declared, “Chad, you’re my everything,” when she won her second Oscar – but it was too little, too late.

2009 – Kate Winslet

She’d already been nominated five times, so the actress was on cloud nine when she finally won an Oscar for The

Reader. But Kate, 42, came crashing back down to earth in 2010 when her second marriage, to director Sam Mendes, crumbled. But the actress insists the split was “perfectly amicable”.

1970 – Maggie Smith

Shortly after her first Oscar win, for The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie, Maggie’s sevenyear marriage to Robert Stephens came to an end. But divorce turned out to be a blessing for the 83-year-old legend who married her first love, playwright Beverley Cross, in 1975 and remained his wife until his death in 1998.

2001 – Julia Roberts

On a career high when she finally won an Oscar for playing reallife crusader Erin Brockovich, a beaming Julia, 50, said she was “so happy” to have landed the gong. But two months later, her personal life was in tatters when she split from her partner, actor Benjamin Bratt, after three years together.

2006 – Reese Witherspoon

“It was very humiliating and very isolating,” Reese said of her divorce from first husband Ryan Phillippe in 2006, amid talk he had an affair with Aussie actress Abbie Cornish. Months earlier, Reese, 41, was loving life after taking out the Best Actress gong for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk The Line.

2010 – Sandra Bullock

Sandra had just 10 days to enjoy her win for The

Blind Side before she found out her husband Jesse James had been having an affair with a stripper for the past year. Jesse publicly apologised to Sandra, 53, and begged her for forgiveness, but she filed for divorce less than a month later.
