ON SET WITH THE CAST OF SAFE HARBOUR
Described as a psychological thriller, Safe Harbour centres around a group of friends on the sailing holiday of a lifetime, who cross paths with a struggling fishing boat overloaded with asylum seekers en route to Australia. They decide to tow the refugees, but the next morning they discover the rope has been cut and the fishing boat is gone. Five years later, they must deal with the consequences.
“It’s not as simple as asking yourself what you’d do in that situation,” Ewen Leslie, who plays Ryan, tells Woman’s Day. “If you’re on a boat with people you love and there are 40 people trying to get on, you’ll do everything you can do protect your family.”
Joel Jackson, who plays Damien, admits the “full on” storyline was confronting, “but that’s when you know you’re part of a great production, because it’s so real.”
Jacqueline Mckenzie (Helen), says friend Russell Crowe gave her some tips for filming at sea. “He looked like he had good sea legs on Master And Commander. HHE told me to look at the horizon a and take a moment to feel the boat moving and the breeze on my face.” Let’s hope it worked! SAFE HARBOUR Wednesday, 8.30pm, SBS
