Wh here’s ’ your wife?” if ?” a f fellow ll cruise i passenger asked Robert Mcgill, on the night of his 55th birthday. “She’s dead. I killed her,” he responded. Hours before those words slipped from his mouth, a drunken Mcgill, a respected LA teacher, strangled his wife Shirley before beating her to death in the bathroom of their cabin with his bare hands. He then changed his clothes, went up to a deck, smoked a cigar and drank a beer while his wife’s lifeless body laid one storey below.

Th The couple l hd had been high school sweetheart­s who went their separate ways before reconnecti­ng at a school reunion 30 years later. They married and were by all accounts happy together before the fateful evening in July 2009.

Mcgill pleaded guilty to murder, saying in court, “I really don’t have the words to make anyone feel better. I know I’ve done a horrible thing.”

Despite his remorse, he was sentenced to life in prison.
