Lasting legacy
Thank you so much for publishing my father Gordon Symonds’ poem The Swan River ( WD, March 5). He would have been thrilled to be a published poet! Sadly, he passed away at nearly 97 in 2010. As he says in his poem “if he lives to be 100” – unfortunately he missed it by three years! He had a good life, writing poems from the Depression years in the 1930s up until the 1990s, when he won the Humorous Section of The Festival of Sydney Poetry Competition with his poem Love In A Retirement Village. I’m sure he’s looking down and smiling after his latest achievement! Dawn Symonds, Neutral Bay, NSW
