There aren’t many women who would be excited about throwing on some activewear on their wedding day.

But mother-of-two Corryn Spelman says she felt like a princess in her tights and trainers when she exchanged vows with her fiance Jon at their local Townsville gym last month.

“I was on the stairmaster and he was on the treadmill at a gym on the Gold Coast when we first met in October last year,” Corryn, 29, tells Woman’s Day. “We’re always training together. The gym is like our second home, so it felt right,” she adds.

The wedding came as a complete surprise to Jon, who thought the pair were going for one last chest workout before he flew home to London for work.

The 27-year-old laughs as he recalls how he tried to talk his fitness fanatic fiancee out of lifting weights on his s surprise wedding day.

“I was being all sulky because I didn’t want to leave her, so I was like ‘Do we have to go?’” says investment banker Jon. “But she wasn’t having it, so I just took my pre-workout drink and got on with it. I was actually speechless when we got there and worked out what was going on – and I’m never lost for words!”

When Jon popped the question in December, the couple decided to exchange vows in front of their immediate family, including Corryn’s young children Braith, six, and Adison, five, in Bali in July.

But Corryn says she couldn’t resist pulling off the weighty surprise before they eloped. “Jon was saying he wished he was going back home with me as his wife so I thought, ‘Why not?’”

Corryn, who claims she never liked “big, muscly men” before, says, “All of our friends and family thought it was the perfect wedding venue for us.”

After they made it official, the pair continued to buck tradition by celebrating with Wheywhip protein ice-cream instead of cake.

Jon has since returned from London and they’ve invested in their first property together – unsurprisingly, their own gym.

“We met at a gym, spend most of our time at the gym and married there, so it makes sense,” says Jon.
