‘WE LOVED WORKING WITH JOHNNY DEPP’

Murder On The Orient Express cast

-

P ublished in 1934, Agatha Christie’s novel Murder On The Orient Express is considered the “whodunnit” against which all others are judged. Last year, the popular murder mystery was brought to life on the big screen with a stellar line-up of actors including Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Dame Judi Dench.

However, with domestic abuse allegations and his reputation for being a handful on set, some cast members admit they had their reservations about filming with Johnny.

“I was quite wary of Johnny Depp and I wondered how we were going to get on, but he was wonderful and there was nothing of a diva about him,” Derek Jacobi, 79, tells Woman’s Day.

“Oddly, on the first day I had a tiny scene to do with him and he had to shout at me, and he turned to Ken Branagh [who plays Hercule Poirot] and said, ‘I can’t shout at Derek Jacobi!’ – and so I fell in love with him immediately.”

Josh Gad adds, “There’s something about Johnny… he’s a movie star, right? But he’s not that person. He really fell into the ensemble nature of the piece so effortlessly and so selflessly.”

As for the real “troublemaker” behind the scenes, Olivia Colman reveals it was 83-year-old Judi! “She had to be told off a lot. She’s very badly behaved,” laughs Olivia. “I sat next to or opposite Dame Judi all day every day. It was heaven. Judi is just amazing. I had been dreaming of working with her and she was naughty, she has a twinkle, she loves games and she’s an absolute joy.” DVD available from March 21 for just $20 at Woolworths
