FEARS FOR SPIRALLING SEAN PENN
Looking exhausted and dishevelled, actor Sean Penn stunned fans last week with a bizarre appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, in which he lit up a cigarette and admitted he was on the addictive prescription sedative Ambien.
On the show to promote his novel, the oddly titled Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff, Sean admitted to the chat-show host, “You’ve inherited a little of the Ambien I had to take to get to sleep after a red-eye [flight] last night.”
As social media lit up with chatter over his state, one onlooker told Woman’s Day, “He looked like death warmed up – there’s a hell of a lot more going on here than a bit of jet lag. You have to be in a bad way to smoke two cigarettes during a TV interview!”
It’s hardly the first time Sean, 57, has courted controversy over his wayward behaviour. In May 2010, he was sentenced to community service after savagely kicking a photographer in Los Angeles, and in June last year, he was snapped screaming at his daughter Dylan’s boyfriend in the street.
A source says, “Sean is a very talented man, but he’s never found a healthy way to deal with his fame – or his temper.”
