The controversial reality star fell victim to a horrific and frightening attack

If anybody knows what it’s like to be trolled for their looks on social media, it’s Keira Maguire. But where most people would break down, the Bachelor In Paradise star remains defiant – and now Woman’s Day can reveal a traumatic experience had a part to play in what critics have slammed as her “obsession” with going under the knife.

Opening up about her decision to undergo nose surgery in 2016, the 31-year-old reveals she was the victim of a vicious attack in her 20s. “I’ve never spoken about this before but when I was 23, a mate of my boyfriend’s grabbed my nose so viciously and twisted it that it actually bent the cartilage,” Keira reveals.

While the blonde says she didn’t press charges, she insists the assault had a lasting effect on her – physically and mentally.

“After that, a girl said to me my nose went a little to the side. So I decided to get a nose job.”

Keira says going on The Bachelor played a role in her decision to have work done, too.

“I was confident with who I was before the show. I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘OK, I’m not happy with that’, but never to the point I thought I needed to change it. But when you’re in the spotlight, you see paparazzi photos [of yourself] and have no control... So if I can change my appearance it gives me back some... control.”

That said, Keira – who is rumoured to find love with Jarrod on the show – insists she isn’t, and never will be, the sort of person who will succumb to the trolls.

“I’m very lucky I’m strongminded and resilient,” she says. “If I wasn’t, who knows what could’ve happened by now”.
