PRINCESS DI & I WOULD’VE BEEN BEST FRIENDS!

-

A fter a lifetime in showbiz, it’s fair to say the all-singing, all-dancing Rhonda Burchmore OAM has seen the best and worst of the industry – from performing for Diana to workplace sexual harassment. Now the 57-yearold has updated her 2011 autobiography Legs 11 with the #metoo zeitgeist in mind… What advice would you give to women starting out in showbiz? If there is a problem, speak up. Discreetly go to the management of your company and explain the situation. You’ve spoken about age discrimination, too… This industry is driven by appearance. It gets much harder as you get older and people do think you’re too old for jobs. I’ve been denied so many roles because there’s this perception that once you’re over 30, you’re too old, so they choose younger looking people who might not be as talented. But if a person still has something to offer, who cares about their exterior? You performed for Diana, Princess of Wales, four times! She loved my tap dancing numbers so I’d always dedicate those to her. It was a really big deal and I know in another world we would be the best of friends, because we were very similar. I’m very lucky to have known her. That’s for sure. How is it you stay so fit and fab? Honestly, I’m the worst person to ask! I look at people like Michelle Bridges and think they are superwomen! I don’t have a routine – I just walk my dogs and try to eat healthily. But I still love my French champagne and chocolate! What are your thoughts on plastic surgery? When it’s overdone it can look creepy. In moderation it’s OK – as long as it isn’t too extreme! LEGS 11 (New Holland Publishers, $32.99).
