JOEL: ‘DOCTORS TOLD ME I SHOULD’VE DIED’
When Joel Wiggins, 27, lost his cousin in his early teens, he turned to food for comfort – and in five years gained 100kg, bingeing on takeaway and fizzy drinks. But in 2016 Joel, then 191kg with type 2 diabetes, got the wake-up call. “I collapsed and hit my head on concrete – a result of having high blood sugar. Doctors later told me I should’ve died.”
Joel’s aim is 99kg. He’s lost 46kg so far, and weighs 145kg.
“I plan to be more committed to exercise and do 30 minutes of walking each day,” he says.
