POSITIVE VIBES ONLY
Do you need a social media detox? TARYN BRUMFITT, mother-of-three, writer, speaker and founder of The Body Image Movement, gives exclusive advice
TAKE THE PLUNGE
I did it. Yep, no Insta, no Facebook, no Twitter – I didn’t even check my emails for four whole days! It was halfway through day one I realised just how much social media has infiltrated my daily routine – for example, what was I supposed to do while I was waiting for the kettle to boil?
NO MORE NEGATIVITY
It got me thinking about the amount of time people spend on social media and the influence it’s having on our lives. I recently read a study by Macquarie University revealing that just 30 minutes a day on Instagram is enough to make women obsessed with their appearance and weight. Yikes!
DON’T BE FOOLED
We struggle because we want to look as good as those we follow in our news feeds. This leads to more of us having a negative body image – and we know nothing good comes from that!
SO WHAT CAN WE DO?
When you scroll through your feed, are the people reflected back at you ones that make you feel good, inspired and loved? If not, my advice is really simple – unfollow! Ditch the social media accounts that don’t serve and support you and instead follow the people that make you feel great.
‘I survived the four days – actually I’d go so far as to say I thrived towards the end!’
