Behind The Scenes

-

Shaynna Blaze is one busy lady. If she’s not hosting Selling Houses Australia, she’s judging on The Block.

Now, the interior designer is about to star in Nine’s new property series Buying Blind, in which she helps six couples find their dream homes.

Here, Shaynna tells us her plans for the future and why she’d never sign up to be a contestant on her new show! What can viewers expect from Buying Blind? It’s something that hasn’t been done before on Australian television. The couples sign a power of attorney and hand over their money to me – the interior designer – buyer’s agent Rich Harvey and builder Marshal Keen. Then they’re blindfolded and we reveal what we’ve found. Would you ever hand over your money to do the same? Not on your life! It must’ve been tense... There was a lot of pressure. It’s somebody’s life savings, so there’s a different intensity that comes with it. None of us took it lightly. The Block will be on our screens before we know it. Will it be a good season? The Gatwick Hotel in Melbourne is almost unrecognisable, which is incredible. We also have one of the biggest lounge rooms we’ve ever seen on the show. They’re big apartments. Some of the contestants were really thrown trying to work with such unusual spaces. Is it true your kids work on the show with you? My son is a sound assistant and my daughter, who’s an assistant editor, used to work on it. My son will mic me up every now and again, which is pretty cool! Is there anything about you that might surprise fans? Most people know I’m an artist and used to do commissions, but there’s just no time for that anymore. I would love to go back to it, maybe once I’ve retired – it’s very therapeutic. I’d love to go to France for six months and just paint. What is your career highlight? It’s tricky to answer. But a highlight would be getting on television to do these shows – it’s opened up a whole new aspect of what I do and what I can achieve. BUYING BLIND Tuesday June 5, 7.30pm, Nine
