ANNABEL CRABB ‘The future terrifies me!’

-

Annabel Crabb has had some pretty exciting hosting gigs, and Back

In Time For Dinner is one of her favourites. In the show, she follows the Ferrone family as they embark on a time-travelling adventure from 1950 to the future, to see how the way we shopped, cooked and ate has changed and shaped our lives.

What’s your favourite decade on

the show? I love the kitchen designs of the ’50s! But it’s the ’70s that made me think, “Oh my god, I’ve been here before!” I was a kid in the ’70s and I can remember the fabrics, the patterns. I also remember seeing an electric can opener for the first time. It was a really big deal!

You also travel to the future

– what was that like? It terrifies me. The scariest thing was seeing how we’ve transitioned from being a nation of thrifty eaters to having fridges groaning with food and fancy ingredients. In the past you didn’t just eat for the sake of it. It also made me think about how all the devices have taken the emphasis away from the kitchen table. Did you always eat at the table growing up? Yes, except on Sunday nights. We’d watch Young Talent Time and have pancakes in front of the TV – it was an incredible treat! BACK IN TIME FOR DINNER Wednesday, 8.30pm, ABC
