‘IT’S NOT AN EASY SHOW TO WATCH…’
Netflix series 13 Reasons Why made headlines for its graphic depiction of teen suicide. As the show returns for a second season, star Alisha Boe, 21, reveals why it has struck a nerve.
Did you anticipate how successful the show would be?
I knew it had a fan base because of the book and Selena [Gomez] being attached to the project. But I never anticipated the impact it would have and how many people would love it so much. I was pleasantly surprised!
How did you deal with controversy about the show?
I knew there would be strong opinions. It goes back to what we wanted to achieve, which is to start a conversation. People have such strong reactions to it, as they should. It’s not an easy show to watch because it shows the ugliness of what can happen in a teenager’s life.
Have fans contacted you with their own stories?
The most moving part about portraying Jessica is people saying they relate and can now start a conversation about their struggles with someone they love.
