Disgraced star Roseanne Barr has suffered another setback following the cancellation of her hit sitcom. m. US magazine Star reports her long-time love Johnny Argent has rebuffed her marriage proposal.
In hot water over her racist tweets aimed at former White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, the 65-year-old comedian immediately turned to Johnny. But even he’s distancing himself from the actress as the controversy continues to simmer.
“Roseanne has gone so far as to propose herself on more than a few occasions,” says a source. “But Johnny always laughs it off and asks her why a pair of senior citizens would need to get married.”
It’s believed the couple – who met in 2002 when Johnny entered a writing competition on Roseanne’s blog – are holed up on their Hawaiian property, a private 5000-tree macadamia nut farm.
“Johnny is deeply concerned about Roseanne’s mental health,” a source tells Star. “Between the Twitter scandal, the show’s cancellation and the backlash, he fears she could suffer a breakdown.
“He’s doing everything he can to be a supportive shoulder to cry on, but Johnny has no intention of marrying Roseanne – not now, not ever.”
Sophie Monk appeared to be showing the strain of hosting Nine’s new dating show Love Island last week, puffing on a cigarette during a break in filming.
The makeup-free star, 38, looked stressed, pausing to close her eyes and check her phone as she lit up on her hotel balcony.
Since arriving in Spain, Sophie has copped criticism about her lack of involvement on the show. Evicted Islander Charlie Taylor added fuel to the fire last week by revealing he barely saw her during his time in the villa. He told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa, “I’ve seen her twice in the last eight to nine days. In the first and last episode, I saw her.”
“It’s not about me,” Sophie hit back on Instagram. “I’m addicted to the show! But my job is to not get too involved.”
Whenever the pretty blonde appears on screen, viewers have been quick to critique. One viewer wrote, “Sophie sounds like an absolute bogan and has no idea how to speak or read lines.”
“She is an embarrassment,” said another.
Sophie has also sparked concern for her health after looking noticeably slimmer – perhaps a sign she’s struggling to deal with the pressure of the hosting gig, for which she’s being paid a rumoured $1 million.
In the first week of filming, the singer endured a 20-hour day, and told her Instagram fans, “I literally live out of my suitcase.”
The lonely star has also been homesick, saying on her Instagram story how she misses her family.
“My nephews and niece make me so happy. I miss them,” she wrote, adding a sad face.
