Madeleine Madden: ‘We all got gastro on set!’

-

Indigenous rights advocate Madeleine is busy making her mark on the acting scene, starring in the Picnic At Hanging Rock revamp and now killer new Aussie drama Mystery Road. Here, she shares her behind-the-scenes antics and who her idol is.

What was it like to work on Mystery Road?

I loved every moment of it. Every role I choose I’m very selective about. As an Indigenous woman in the media, I want to help celebrate our stories – and that’s what this show has allowed us to do.

Who is your industry icon?

Thandie Newton. She’s incredible, and a great advocate for diversity on screen. She always plays really strong characters.

What was it like being part of Picnic At Hanging Rock?

It was incredible, and internationally it’s been received really well, too. We had some of the best people in the industry working on it, so you could really trust the process. I was so excited.

What was your worst moment on set?

We all got gastro when we were shooting our picnic scene. A bunch of girls in white dresses with gastro wasn’t funny at the time – but now it’s hilarious! MYSTERY ROAD Sunday, 8.30pm, ABC
