For years they’ve been plagued by rumours of infidelity and a sham marriage. But the situation reached fever pitch last week when allegations surfaced David was having an affair with his six-year-old daughter Harper’s school teacher and had even gotten her pregnant!
The shock accusations emerged online and it wasn’t long before Twitter exploded. One of the earliest tweets was from Lee Mara: “Right apparently... David Beckham has got his daughter’s teacher pregnant and they are getting a divorce.” When someone asked how he knew this, he added, “Can’t say how I know... but I know.”
While no one could be sure where the gossip originated from, fans revealed their shock and heartbreak over David’s alleged actions. Several people called the footballer “trash” and others admitted they weren’t surprised.
The talk was confined to social media, but speculation mounted among industry insiders that it could be the final straw for the couple, who have previously admitted “marriage is difficult”.
PLAYING HAPPY FAMILIES
Bookmaker Paddy Power stopped accepting bets on David, 43, and 44-yearold Victoria announcing their split, adding more fuel to the Twitter storm.
Then, in an out-of-character move, the Beckhams made a public statement – which they haven’t done since David rebutted accusations he was having an affair with his personal assistant Rebecca Loos in 2003.
“There is no statement due, no divorce and a lot of Chinese whispers and fake social media news. This is all very bizarre and an embarrassing waste of time,” a spokesperson for the couple said, adding the rumours were “a crock of sh*t”.
The teacher’s father was also keen to shut the story down, branding the suggestion “nonsense”, adding, “My daughter has never even met him [David]. End of story.”
He told The Sun, “This is ridiculous. We have no idea where it has come from. She is a very pretty, attractive girl and been linked to it by fake news.”
The couple, who share four kids – Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and Harper – now seem determined to prove their relationship is rock solid. Almost straight after the allegations broke Posh hit back by posting an Instagram photo with Harper in her school uniform. “Morning cuddles x So much love, we love and miss u @davidbeckham,” she wrote in the caption.
In the days following, the couple – who are normally apart more than they are together – continued to play happy families on social media. Victoria shared loved-up photos from the Kent & Curwen fashion show in London, although strangely the married couple arrived separately. It was David and Victoria’s first public appearance together since the allegations surfaced.
THE OTHER WOMEN
While the Beckhams say they were shocked by the rumours, it’s not the first time David has been linked to other women. Victoria looked notably frosty at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding last month, following reports David spent the previous evening partying at Soho Farmhouse with a pair of socialites.
His relationship with Lady Mary Charteris is said to have caused tension, and the family’s ex-nanny Abbie Gibson has previously alleged he wanted “to split”, claiming Victoria was heartbroken over his affairs with other women.
The most notorious claim is from his former personal assistant Rebecca Loos, who declared she had an affair with him in Spain. David called the claim “ludicrous” but didn’t categorically deny it. “The simple truth is that I am very happily married,” he stated at the time. “I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”
But with mounting fears that their marriage is in deep trouble, ble, and with David setting up home in Miami, mi, some believe this could be the final straw for Brand Beckham. m.
