Behind The Scenes
The Living Room’s Amanda Keller
Anomination for a Gold Logie is exactly what Amanda Keller and her team at The Living Room needed after a rollercoaster year.
Late last year, the TV host announced her co-star Barry Du Bois’ cancer had returned – much to the devastation of viewers and the rest of The Living Room clan. But thankfully, Barry is now on the mend – and he, Amanda, Miguel Maestre and Dr Chris Brown have a reason to celebrate!
How does it feel to be nominated?
I didn’t expect it. I spoke to Tracey [Grimshaw] and she said the exact same thing. It never occurred to me I’d be in this category!
You have so much support…
Part of it’s just the longevity of being in the media for about 1000 years! But I’ve often thought this about my life – I’ve never felt the best of it is behind me. That’s a very nice thing to feel.
Why do you think people love so much?
We’ve had a hard year with Barry’s illness. The episode where we told people his cancer had returned… I don’t think television gets more real than that.
You’re all such good friends!
I think that’s what the audience responds to. There’s the show, and our friendship is separate to it now. Miguel acts like a naughty younger er brother, but he’d kill for us – I know w that. He’s the most loyal friend.
How’s Barry doing?
He’s doing well. January was so hard for him. I remember we did a Living Room catch-up in hospital and I cried all the way home. But when he tells you he’s going to be OK, you believe him. Barry’s a force of positivity. His attitude is truly inspirational. The nominees for the 2018 TV Week Logie Awards have been announced.
