It’s been almost 10 years since Nikki’s husband Daniel died in a tragic motorcycle accident, but the Melbourne mum-of-one will never forget him.

Heartbreakingly, she was almost nine months pregnant when she was suddenly and shockingly widowed. As she was struggling to process her grief, the stress of the situation brought on early labour. Nikki was rushed to hospital to give birth to their son Daniel, now nine, who she named after her late husband.

“I remember it like it was yesterday. It was one of the most horrific experiences of my life and I don’t wish it upon anybody,” recalls the pretty brunette.

“I went into labour two days after Daniel’s passing and gave birth prematurely four days later. We had a plan for our lives together and it was ripped from my grasp so quickly,” she says, adding, “It was such a traumatic time but I was lucky to get love and support from friends and family during that time.”

Now, 10 years on from the devastating accident that stole her husband’s life, Nikki says she still does her best to remember him and celebrate his short life. “We visit the cemetery on his anniversary, birthday, Christmas and Father’s Day,” says the brave mum, who prefers to focus on the happy times they shared.

“My son is definitely aware of his father and knows we celebrate his life but I don’t want him to grieve like I did or experience that pain,” she adds.

Looking back on her short marriage with warmth, Nikki, 32, says her late husband would have given his blessing for her to move on and start a life that they were never able to share.

“I’ve gone through a lot of emotions and I’ll grieve for the rest of my life,” she says. “But I know he’d want me to be happy.”

Now headed for a dating and relationship crash course on Seven’s new dating show The Single Wives, which follows four women as they search for their second chance at love, Nikki is positive about the future.

“I think marriage and love is the most beautiful thing in the world so I’m certainly open to marriage again!” THE SINGLE WIVES
