Terrific toffee apples
Insert 1 pop stick firmly through the stems of 8 apples. Line a large oven tray with baking paper. Dissolve 4 cups caster sugar and 1½ cups water on low. Boil on high, not stirring, 7 mins until golden. Brush down sides of pan with a wet pastry brush to remove any stray sugar crystals. Swirl in food colouring – don’t stir. Dip apples in hot toffee, then press base into crushed nuts or sprinkles. Set aside 15 mins until set.
