Caring for your woollies
Maggie.t’s buying creative director r shares s how to make your wardrobe last
WOOL
Woollen sweaters are best washed by hand in lukewarm water using a eucalyptus wool wash. I then always lay them flat to dry so they stay in shape.
ACRYLIC
Hanging acrylic knits will alter their shape, so folding is always the way to go. Try to fold your items as flat as possible to avoid having to press them before wear.
COTTON
Cotton sweaters are so easy to wear. They’re also lowmaintenance given they’re machine washable. Remember to pre-treat any stains with a liquid remover in cold water.
CASHMERE
No matter what price I pay for a cashmere sweater, it always has a tendency to pill. I use a sticky roller to get rid of pilling or, for extra-stubborn balls, a disposable razor. To reduce pilling, avoid contact with polyester garments.
Christine recommends looking to loved ones for further knowledge. “I have gathered tips over the years from my mum, aunties and friends.”
