Behind The Scenes

As A Place To Call Home comes to a close, the screen icon is ready to say goodbye to Ash Park

-

After six seasons A Place To Call Home is coming to an end. Are you ready to say goodbye?

It’s great we’ve been able to finish on a high, rather than doing one season too many and our audience tuning out. The story comes to a natural conclusion and I think viewers will be very happy with the way it ends up. I look back on the journey of the characters and I can fully understand why people get so emotionally wrapped up – it’s because you feel like you know these people.

Can fans expect a happy ending for your character Roy Briggs?

For every character there’s a home within their soul where they feel at peace with the world. That’s what ultimately happens with Roy, even though he’s had tremendous ups and downs. In the end he reaches that place where he feels at peace with himself.

How does it feel to be seen as a sex symbol?

Female fans have responded to Roy’s masculinity. Unlike the other characters, Roy isn’t

glamorous. Roy’s dirty – he’s always got hat hair, he’s sweaty and I don’t think he showers much! I believe it’s his Australian masculinity they’re attracted to. Many fans have said, “Why doesn’t Sarah just go out with Roy?”

Do you enjoy being recognised?

It’s a privilege to have that effect on people. I’ve been fortunate throughout my career to have had a number of shows that have had a great impact on people.
