Nicolle’s on-screen husband Ross Newton revealed he was forced to conceal who he really was when he was cast as Greg Marshall on Home And Away.
“The producers told me to keep my sexuality a secret,” explains Ross, who also starred in The Flying Doctors, GP and All Saints.
The 51-year-old has been in a relationship with equestrian Lucas Hurps, 44, for the past 25 years.
“It was a very different time, and if you were openly gay you often didn’t get cast.”
Ross, who now works as a fundraiser for Western Sydney University, says Nicolle knew his “secret” from the very start and was always very supportive.
