Be ‘dense’ aware... like Christina

-

Breast density does not refer to “perkiness” or “sagging”, but how breasts look on a mammogram. Non-dense breasts are full of dark-coloured fatty tissue, so cancer spots (typically white) tend to stick out. However dense breasts are full of connective and glandular tissue which also show up as white, making cancer trickier to spot. Actress Christina Applegate’s breast cancer was found on MRI after her doctor determined that a mammogram wasn’t enough.“my doctor finally said, ‘I can’t see. It’s too dense in there. We need to go deeper.’ And we did, and I had cancer,” she says.
