Bagged a grandpa
Mackenzie, six, said to me, “Dad, next Friday we have to take something old to school for show and tell.” I said, “You can take Grandpa,” to which she replied, “Don’t be silly – he can’t fit in my schoolbag”. Jeff Tanti, Melbourne, Vic A dog’s life Thank you for writing about our farmers ( WD, August 20). I’m trying to knit for the lambs. I do wonder about the other animals like cattle dogs. My daughter read some farmers have to “retire” their working dogs. Surely the dog food companies can help? They must make billions from animal lovers.
Hairdo happiness
I have just read Fiona’s column in the issue dated August 6. I was recently berated by my husband, a farmer, for wasting half a working day at the hairdressers. Then he said it looked nice. He usually asks what they did because it looks the same! I was wondering how many women have this problem. I see going to the hairdressers a necessity at my age, 65. I only go every couple of months. It’s “me” time. Trish Schultz, via email
Spring into action!
As our winter temperatures give way to warmer spring days, I’m already enjoying a change in my “seasonal” cooking. I’m a great fan of Kylie Kwong, so I was delighted to see she’s shared some of her favourite recipes in this issue ( WD, September 10). And your weeknight budget dinners have my tastebuds tingling, especially the sticky Thai pork. It’s on the menu tonight! Thanks for another wonderful food and recipe feature.
