Bachelor mansion

The Bachelor Australia’s art director RICHARD JENSEN shares his style secrets so you can get the look

-

Candlelit nooks, luxe furnishings and, of course, roses galore, The Bachelor Australia mansion is the epitome of romance.

“The aim every year, no matter the location, is for the house to look decadent and luscious,” says the show’s art director Richard Jensen. “But like everyone, we have to operate on a budget, so we love to find a bargain!”

Like the gorgeous outdoor rug they snagged for less than $100 (see right)!

So what kind of materials, furniture and decor do we need to make our homes feel a million bucks, but without the hefty price tag?

“I think using velvet somewhere in the room always lends itself to a lush and romantic feel,” says Richard. “This can be as bold as a whole couch or curtains, or can be more subtle with velvet throw pillows.

“Also, layering multiple patterns, colours and textures really ups the romance,” he adds. “I love using jewel-toned colours like emerald, ruby red and cobalt blue.”

While some of the items used to style the Bachie mansion make our minds boggle – like a near-$5000 chandelier – here are some great products to help you get the look for less…
