ASH’S TOP 5 TIPS FOR FIJI

Former MKR star ASH POLLARD shares the experiences you won’t want to miss

1 Hire a car & explore Fiji

I’d absolutely recommend hiring a car if you plan to visit Fiji. It is not at all difficult to drive on the roads (they drive on the same side of the road as Australia). Having the freedom of a car allows you to get out of the resort bubble, find some incredible experiences and discover the real Fiji.

2 Take a food safari

While I was staying at Nanuku Auberge Resort, I experienced their Fijian Food Safari, which saw me explore local markets, search for mud crabs, catch freshwater prawns and make lolo (coconut milk). I also learned how to weave baskets for the traditional Fiji lovo, an in-ground oven.

3 Head to a beach club on its own island for the day

Want to feel like you’re on a private island? Book a cabana at Malamala Beach Club. It’s only a 25-minute boat transfer from Denarau Port. There’s a butler service, five-star dining, signature cocktails and fresh coconuts in abundance. Adventure seekers can kayak and paddle around the island.

4 Learn to use Bula

You’ll hear it everywhere and it’s so contagious… BULA! It is the national greeting and its literal meaning is “life”, but it can be used for hello, welcome, and love.

5 Head inland

Fiji’s interior is just as beautiful as its beaches and very safe. Spend a day discovering hidden waterfalls or heading up the Sigatoka River on a safari tour. If hiking is your thing, look up Talanoa Treks. For more on Ash’s Fijian adventure, catch Foodie Adventures With Ash Pollard on tenplay.com.au
