The delightful duo team up to celebrate philanthropist Dame Elisabeth Murdoch’s famed garden, Cruden Farm

Woman’s Day (Australia) - - Contents -

It’s one of the most beautiful and celebrated gardens in Australia and having been nurtured n more than eight decades d by Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, M Cruden Farm is a fl flourishing sanctuary that c continues to thrive today. Filmed over a year, TV special Inside Dame Elisabeth’s Garden celebrates the 90th anniversary of the tranquil estate on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Landscape designer and friend of Cruden Farm, Paul Bangay, and celebrated chef Maggie Beer present the special as they tour the historic grounds... Paul, this is your first foray in to TV. How did it come about? I’ve worked for the Murdoch family for quite a while, and I knew Dame Elisabeth and I’m a gardener so it’s a natural fit. Plus, working with Maggie Beer – how could I resist working with the best?!

Maggie, Maggie what hat attracted you o to this project? I'm very picky about what I do but it was the combination of wishing I'd met Dame Elisabeth and the opportunity to work with Paul. Has Paul taught you things you can do at home in your garden? Absolutely, I learn from Paul all the time and I see what he's done at his property – it's formal and beautiful, yet has a wildness about it. What I love is you can come to a garden like mine and love it, too! Paul, what makes a successful garden? A sign of a successful garden is one that reflects your personality, and Maggie's certainly does – in a good way! You see so many places where the gardens have been designed by other people and the owners don't love it. Maggie's works because it's a reflection of her. Paul, why should people tune in to the show? I think a lot of Australians are passionate about gardening and this is a very personal garden, created by someone who wasn't a professional. People will take a lot away from it. Dame Elisabeth didn't have any training and didn't have a designer but learned as she went along and viewers will be inspired by it. INSIDE DAME ELISABETH’S GARDEN Thursday, 8.30pm, Foxtel Lifestyle

Maggie works on the menu for Cruden Farm’s 90th birthday party – with a little help from Paul!
