Supergrains explained
Dietitian and Sunrice ambassador LYNDI COHEN spills on the trending ingredients you need
“Eating unrefined wholegrains is a great way to get a healthy source of carbohydrates and add more nutrition into your diet,” says Lyndi. “Getting a variety of plant-based foods such as quinoa and brown rice, alongside fruit and veg in a balanced diet has been shown to be beneficial for a healthy gut. Here are some ‘super’ grains I recommend adding to your diet.”
Red quinoa
“Quinoa is one of a few plant foods that contain all nine of the essential amino acids your body needs. While all quinoa varieties are healthy, red quinoa has a slightly higher content of fibre and protein.”
Millet
“Millet is a nutrient-rich wholegrain that’s low in fat and a good source of dietary fibre. It’s naturally gluten-free and contains magnesium and phosphorous, as well as important B-group vitamins.”
Buckwheat
“Buckwheat is a source of resistant starch, a type of fibre that’s really good for your gut health as it isn’t fully absorbed in the small intestines. Benefits may include helping you feel satisfied after eating.”
