4 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW MURPHY BROWN
Two decades after Murphy Brown ended, Candice Bergen is reprising her role as the sharp-tongued journalist and single mum.
“It’s been very emotional. Murphy was so important to all of us, and so to be back [on set] we’re just grateful,” says the 72-year-old actress.
Here’s what else you need to know about the revival.
1 THE ORIGINAL CAST ARE ALL BACK!
Candice isn’t the only cast member returning – actors Faith Ford (Corky Sherwood), Joe Regalbuto (Frank Fontana) and Grant Shaud (Miles Silverberg) are all back, too. Joining them is Tyne Daly – the Cagney & Lacey star plays Phyllis, the sister of Phil from the original series, who now runs the gang’s hangout, Phil’s Bar, after Phil’s death.
2MURPHY’S HEADED TO MORNINGS
While the original series saw Murphy host a primetime news magazine show, this time around she’s entering the world of breakfast TV. After Donald Trump’s election, Murphy ends her retirement to host the aptly titled Murphy In The Mornings. In a twist, she finds herself up against her son Avery (Jake Mcdorman), who’s all grown up and hosting a rival conservative show!
3THERE ARE GUEST STARS GALORE!
Bette Midler reprises her role as Caprice FeldmanMorton, one of Murphy’s former secretaries who is now the largest shareholder of the network. Real-life news anchor Katie Couric and actress Brooke Shields have cameos, while Hillary Clinton appears in the opening episode as Hilary Clendon, who applies to be Murphy’s new secretary!
4CANDICE NEEDED SOME CONVINCING
Trump’s involvement extends much further than an episode title. Candice and series creator Diane English were originally apprehensive about a reboot when approached two years ago. But since the US election, they found inspiration to counterweight the administration with the show. MURPHY BROWN, Mondays, 8.30pm, Ten
