We’re used to her flawless complexion and blonde locks, but Hollywood glamour Nicole Kidman is virtually unre unrecognisable in her new movie Destroyer. Des The actress, who plays an und undercover cop in the gritty drama, has totally transformed her appearance for the th role – and is already drumming up Oscar O buzz.

Bu But there was more action off set than on, with Nicole recently speaking out about a terrif terrifying real-life situation during filming. The 51-year-old 5 revealed how she feared for her li life when an active shooter opened fire close to the Los Angeles set.

“W “We were in South Central LA shooting and t they were like, ‘Get inside, there’s a shoo shooter, a live shooter,’” she said. “I’m like, ‘Wha ‘What?’ I’ve got the [prop] gun and I’m out on th the street and they dragged me in, and I hit t the floor because there was a shooter and helicopters.” h

It w was a chilling situation for Nicole, who to pre prepare for her role was taught how to hold, ho old, load and fire guns during an intense in nten month of training. “Nicole “N embodied this character during durin filming in every way. It must have been horrifying for her to realise that there was a real shooter so close to her,” an insider in tells Woman’s Day. “The “Th stakes were high and it’s telling that Nicole has only now decided to speak spea about this. It’s clearly affected her and something that has been on her mind min for a long time. “Nicole “N is passionate about this movie, mo but if the cast and crew ended up in danger because of it, she would be devastated. This nearly turned into her he worst nightmare.”

The Th filming of Destroyer began in LosLo Angeles in December 2017 and wrapped w in February. The movie is set for fo release in the US on Christmas Day. In the film, Nicole plays an LAPD detective de who was placed undercover with w a gang in California in her younger y years – with devastating results. re When the leader of the gang resurfaces, r she must confront her past p and her demons. But it wasn’t just the shooting that Nicole N struggled to deal with on set. The Th star has confessed the emotional impact of the movie took its toll on her mental health, causing huge concern for her husband Keith Urban, 51, and their children, Sunday, 10 and Faith, seven, who were desperate for her to finish filming.

“I was deeply depressed,” she told Variety. “It was the point where my husband was like, ‘When the hell is this going to end?’”

Now the star has to relive the experience while promoting the movie.

“This film was seriously taxing on Nicole. Keith was pretty worried about her, especially after how playing a victim of domestic violence in Big Little Lies had a big effect on her,” adds our close source.

“She’s excited to dig deep into new and confronting roles, and likes to challenge and push herself to her limits, but it takes its toll emotionally. Although Keith is extremely supportive of her career, he was relieved when filming for Destroyer was over and isn’t too pleased she’s got to go through all that trauma and upset again.”

However, her dedication to the role is paying off. Nicole is already being highly praised for her performance, and industry insiders say the A-lister will be in the running for a Best Actress Oscar again.

“This is Nicole’s darkest role yet and she put her all into it. She was the toast of awards season thanks to Big Little Lies and now she’s determined to have that same kind of success on the big screen again,” spills the source.

“Nicole’s at the pinnacle of her career right now and everything she touches turns to gold. Destroyer took a lot out of Nicole during filming, and the shooting situation only added to that. But if she ends up with another Oscar, it will all be worth it!”

‘I’ve got the gun and I’m out on the street and they dragged me in’

Nicole and her crew had to “hit the floor” during the terrifying incident. She says playing an undercover cop took its toll on her and her family.
