The bitter rift with her late mum has come back to haunt the pained star
It’s been a touchy subject for Jennifer Aniston since she catapulted to fame, and now the former Friends star is finally speaking out about her fraught relationship with her late mother Nancy Dow.
It seems her role as a pushy beauty queen stage mum to a plus-sized daughter in her new movie Dumplin’ has touched a raw nerve with Jen, who famously fell out with Nancy and did not reconcile before her May 2016 death at the age of 79.
“I did not come out the model child she’s hoped for and it was something that really resonated with me,” the 49-yearold confessed while discussing the film. “This little girl just wanting to be loved by a mum who was too occupied with things that didn’t quite matter.”
The pair fell out in 1999 when former model and actress Nancy published a book titled From Mother And Daughter To Friends about their relationship.
Notoriously private Jen saw this as the ultimate betrayal, and was so incensed she didn’t invite Nancy to her wedding to Brad Pitt in 2000. It’s been reported the actress and Nancy reconnected occasionally, but their relationship fell into complete disrepair from 2011, when Nancy suffered a stroke, until she passed peacefully due to “ongoing health issues”. At the time, Jen attended the funeral at Nancy’s apartment with her then-husband Justin Theroux, 47, where her mum’s body was said to be propped up in a bed in her living room. “Jen cried way too many tears over her mum. She was left traumatised by never feeling good enough for her, and tried so hard to let everything go after Nancy died,” spills a source. “But doing this movie has both reopened old wounds and allowed Jen to deal with the pain she’s been holding onto all of these years. It’s good that she’s finally being more honest with herself about it.”
