Grant’s gift to farmers

All the Gold Logie winner wants for Christmas is to lend a hand!

Grant Denyer has had many roles throughout his career. From TV weatherman to radio presenter and race car driver, he’s pretty much tried his hand at it all. But this year he’s taken on a new gig – conquering the music charts!

The 41-year-old personality has released a new Yuletide single titled Driving Home For Christmas, with all proceeds going to Rural Aid, a charity that supports drought-affected farmers across the country.

“So damn excited,” Grant declared on Instagram after announcing the news. “As you know [Rural Aid] is a subject I’m deeply passionate about, plus I’ve always loved my music, especially at Christmas time.”

Grant has long vocalised the importance of providing aid throughout the drought crisis. The Gold Logie winner lives on a farm in Bathurst with his wife Chezzi, 38, and their two daughters Sailor, seven, and Scout, three. As a result, the family have seen firsthand the devastating effects. “It’s dragged on for so long and has been so savage that, after a while, you just can’t hold it in any more,” says Grant, adding, “Farmers are very proud, humble people. They’re isolated and aren’t great at putting their hand up when they need help.”

Meanwhile, Chezzi told an Instagram follower last week, “There are a lot of farmers who still need help. I don’t think most of us realise how far spread and how many people have been affected by this dreadful drought.”

Grant says this is the first time he’s sung formally, but he was more than happy to step into the recording studio. “If you can do a little bit, why not?” he said during a radio interview last week.

While he has no plans to venture into music permanently, Grant’s definitely satisfied with the track. “Take that Mariah Carey, there’s a new player in town,” he joked upon its release.
