GEOFF & SARA HUEGILL THE SCANDAL BEHIND THEIR SPLIT!

From theft to debt, the former couple’s secret battles are finally exposed

-

Geoff and Sara Huegill had a seemingly picture perfect life. A beautiful family, an inner city home – the world was theirs. But now it seems that couldn’t be further from the truth. In an exclusive report, Woman’s Day can expose the shocking truth about the couple’s seven-year marriage, with one long-time pal revealing what really happened behind closed doors that ultimately led to former Olympian Geoff to call it quits.

“A few weeks ago, just before Christmas, Geoff got a call from their newsagent saying his wife had walked out with three fashion magazines without paying. Geoff was mortified, but very grateful to the nice man who gave him the chance to make it right. Geoff was so embarrassed,” says the friend, who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity. “It was a very sad and bitter finale, a fitting end to a treacherous relationship, particularly these past 12 months.”

When Woman’s Day contacted the newsagency, the owner, who asked not to be named, confirmed that Sara had left the premises without paying, reportedly taking copies of Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, with a retail value of around $31.

‘Sara and Geoff’s lifestyle continued to self-destruct’

“To commend Geoff, he came straight i in after f I contacted d him hi and d paid id the h amount in full, and apologised profusely – it was very big of him to do that,” the shop owner confirmed.

After a shocking year that saw them relocate from Sydney to the Gold Coast with their two daughters, Mila, six, and Gigi, four, the Huegills seemed to have got back on track.

“Sara’s an only child and her mum Caja lives on the coast. She’s a devoted grandmother and a decent woman with strong morals. In stark contrast, Sara and Geoff’s lifestyle continued to self-destruct,” the friend explains.

STEALING FROM A CHILD

“In January last year, soon after they relocated, the alarm bells sounded. Sara, Geoff and the girls were invited to a close friend’s son’s birthday – what followed was as low as it gets. It’s believed Sara rifled through the gifts and cards, and stole all the money the boy had been gifted from friends and family.

“He came home and told his parents... they didn’t want to even think it was their good friend Sara. But the next morning when Geoff was told the money was missing, within minutes Sara was on the phone and confessed, apologising profusely. But it was too late. They demanded she return it and drop it in their letterbox – they’re the most decent family and they tried everything to help them, but it fell on deaf ears.”

The Huegills’ fall from grace began in 2014, when they were caught with cocaine at Royal Randwick racecourse and charged with drug possession. Then in May 2018, Sara brazenly swiped a $2500 pair of leather pants from a boutique in the NSW beach town of Byron Bay. Charges were later dropped on “mental health grounds”.

TROUBLE AT WORK

More bad press followed a month later, when several scorned PR clients claimed Sara was a fraud, after she got them to pay her thousands to help promote their products.

The Huegills’ financial woes continued, with both Sara and Geoff struggling to pay back the mounting debts they’d accrued, telling close friends repeatedly they would start to pay them back. At time of print, they had not paid a cent, alleges the source.

Sara and the girls will now relocate to Tasmania where she’ll be under the watchful eye of her father, Professor Andrew Hills, who among his many qualifications is a leading authority on eating disorders.

Geoff has reportedly taken up a swim role in Singapore, where he plans to coach wealthy ex-pats. It’s a last-ditch effort to try to get his life back on track.

“I’m speaking out in the hope that Sara continues to get the help she needs and that Geoff finally embraces a job and sticks with it,” says the source.

“Sara knows she has major disorders. Whatever happens, I hope they pay back everyone the money they were lent – and Sara finds peace knowing at the core she’s a good person. She needs to find that – for the sake of her girls and her family.”
