HOW-TO INSTRUCTIONS

-

1 Get set up

Work outside in a well-ventilated area protected from the wind. Spread out a drop cloth to catch debris and protect surrounding surfaces from paint overspray.

2 Remove the plastic

Push a paint scraper along the surface to remove the plastic, using a flicking motion on stubborn sections.

3 Clean up the joints

Use a multi-tool or pliers to snip away the plastic from around the joints, ensuring they’re also clean underneath.

4 Smooth the surface

Run a small wire brush along the metal and around the joints to remove any loose debris.

5 Wipe away dust

Run a clean damp cloth over the surface to remove any dust and ensure the surface is clean for maximum paint adhesion.

6 Apply the paint

Shake the can vertically to get the ball inside moving, then shake for three minutes. Wear a mask to paint, holding the can about 150mm from the surface and moving it from side to side to spray in light, even coats. Leave the stand to dry for at least 15 minutes.

7 Cover all angles

Turn the stand over to spray from underneath, keeping the can moving to spray a fine layer, then leave to dry for at least 15 minutes.

8 Re-coat and leave to dry

Turn the stand upright to apply another coat, keeping the can moving to spray a fine layer of paint. Leave to dry for 15 minutes and repeat until all the metal is covered. Leave to dry thoroughly for a couple of hours.

9 Attach the feet

Add rubber chair tips to the legs, tapping on with a rubber mallet or hammer if they’re a tight fit.

10 Set up the stand

Find a sheltered spot with an even, solid floor to set up your stand with potted plants, and don’t forget to water them!
