Portia & Ellen A baby!

After years of star interviews and endless laughs, it’s time for Ellen to put family first

-

It’s been over 15 years since The Ellen Degeneres Show first aired. And now, Woman’s Day can reveal that the comedian is planning a shock exit from the daytime TV hit – because her wife Portia de Rossi is laying down the law!

And that’s not all. Sources believe a departure from her show could mean Ellen, 60, and Portia, 45, are finally ready to start a family together!

“Ellen has always brushed off claims that she’s having a baby with Portia because she just hasn’t had the time. But if she wasn’t working almost every single day, of course that would change things,” one friend reveals.

“Ellen adores kids, and while she never saw it happening for herself, who knows what the future could hold if she had a little more time on her hands!”

According to those close to the couple, who recently celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary, Portia has been keen for Ellen to take a step back for some time.

“Portia is urging Ellen to quit while she’s ahead,” another friend reveals. “She’s

been super-supportive of Ellen’s career but at this point, Ellen is 60 and Portia wants her to slow down and stop being such a workaholic.”

MOVING ON

Indeed, Ellen recently admitted that while her brother Vance, who is also a comedian, has been encouraging her to stick with the show, Portia desperately wants her to give it up.

“She gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,” says Ellen.

And Portia added, “I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and stand-up that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity. There are other things she could tackle. I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending.”

While Portia may have to wait a little while longer to have Ellen at home more often – her contract is in place until 2020 – she’s keen for her wife to get used to the idea of life beyond her talk show sooner rather than later.

“This was their way of compromising but make no mistake, Portia will be doing whatever she can to ensure Ellen parts ways with the show as soon as possible,” our source adds.

“Portia is longing for them to have more quality time together and focus on each other. Ellen would probably keep going with it if she didn’t have Portia telling her not to. This is the push that she needs to put herself and her personal life first.”

When Ellen does give up her successful talk show, she will have more time to spend with Portia, who recently quit acting to start an art curation business.

“Portia is really happy she quit acting. She knows Ellen will probably never totally retire, but she’d love for them to have some more time together to spend with their pets and exploring the world. And if they started a family, that would simply be a dream come true.”

With celebrity friends that include everyone from Kim Kardashian to Michelle Obama, Ellen certainly has a lot of people to advise her on becoming a parent.

But there are whispers that she is considering turning to adoption instead of surrogacy or fertility treatments.

“Ellen is all about helping others and she and Portia have so much love to give. It makes sense that they’d want to give a good home to a child in need,” says an insider. “Everyone knows they would make the best parents.”
