Travel Kid-free cruises

ALISHA STODDART discovers the new way to rekindle romance on a kid-free cruise From 24-hour pizza bars to pools, you’ll never be bored!

As we sailed out of Sydney Harbour I had very mixed emotions – anxiety and a little fear about leaving my daughter for five days, yet excitement at the idea of spending some quality time with my husband. When you both work full-time and look after a two-year-old, it’s very easy to become ships in the night.

However, with a cocktail in my hand and snuggling in a cabana on the Carnival Spirit as we watched the sunset behind the Harbour Bridge, my fears quickly faded away!

I must admit, I had a very stereotyped view of cruises – always assuming it was aimed at the older generations. But how wrong I was!

Carnival Cruise Line has worked hard at creating activities for couples who are ready for a child-free holiday and wanting to reconnect. You can do as little or as much as you like. I have always had trouble just chilling out, so I was keen to cram as many activities as possible into our few days!

First on the itinerary was a cocktail making class, and it was no ordinary class. We were lighting orange peels on fire and in hysterics from the bartender’s tales! Quad biking on Moreton on Island was great at getting me out of my comfort zone, and we saw so many stunning views in a short space of time! Throw in a dreamy couples massage at the end of a long day and I was in heaven.

The absolute highlight of the trip for me was having dinner at the Chef’s Table. You literally eat in the galley with hundreds of chefs, cooks ks and waiters bustling around you making the rest of the passengers’ dinners!

Needless to say, cruising is definitely on the cards again for this couple.
