Margot Robbie ‘BEING ELIZABETH WAS LONELY’

-

Margot Robbie has set tongues wagging again – but this time it’s not for her amazing red-carpet glamour or gorgeous good looks.

Instead, the Australian actress has people talking about her remarkable transformation into Queen Elizabeth I for her latest film Mary Queen of Scots.

With her bright red wig, hooked nose and heavy white makeup, which the monarch used to cover up smallpox scars, 28-year-old Margot is unrecognisable.

But becoming Elizabeth wasn’t easy, with the former Neighbours star spending three-and-a-half hours a day in hair and makeup. “They’d start with a head wrap,” Margot recalls. “Gelling and pinning my hair down. Then we’d do a bald cap.” There was also the need for various wigs, and prosthetic scarring applied to her face daily.

“Surprisingly, the quick part was the white makeup,” Margot added. “And the heavily drawn-on blush, eyebrows and lips.”

But it wasn’t all fun and dress ups, the I, Tonya star adds, noting it was a “lonely” experience as the cast could barely look her in the eye once she was in costume because they were so intimidated.

“I’d say, ‘Hey, how was your weekend?’ But they wouldn’t get close to me.

“It was very alienating. I felt very lonely. It was an interesting social experiment.”
