Back with Lynda

They were set to walk down the aisle some 40 years ago, before calling off their engagement, but Derryn Hinch and his former fiancee Lynda Stoner have rekindled their romance.

The media personality-turnedsenator, 74, has confirmed he’s been “spending a lot of time” with the ’70s glamour girl after they began working closely together on banning live exports.

The environmentally conscious pair are also attempting to ban controversial agricultural poison 1080, which is harmful to animals. “Lynda and I have been friends forever,” Derryn revealed. “We were engaged nearly 40 years ago… We are spending a lot of time together and both enjoying it.”

Former Prisoner and Cop Shop actress Lynda, who shares son Luke with her ex-husband, actor Peter Sumner, has flown under the radar in recent years. However, since becoming the CEO of animal rights charity Animal Liberation in 2013, she’s used her profile to campaign for all creatures great and small.

It’s not the first time Derryn has attempted to find love with an old flame. After his engagement to Lynda ended, he married Australian acting royalty Jacki Weaver – twice. The couple first wed in 1983, although it was Derryn’s third walk up the aisle, before divorcing in 1996. A year later they remarried, but split again just 12 months later. He also tied the knot with Chanel Hayton in 2006, before they too separated in 2012.

Following their divorce, Derryn, whose most recent relationship was with former NSW police Sergeant Natasha Chadwick, said it was his liver cancer battle that prompted the split. “With my new-found health, I have decided I want to spend my remaining years focusing on my career,” he said at the time.
