GEORGE & AMAL’S BITTER CUSTODY BATTLE EXPLODES

The doting parents will do all they can to get their children… no matter how ugly it gets!

-

On the surface George and Amal Clooney look like a husband and wife match made in heaven. But bubbling beneath the starry eyes and the smiles has been months of speculation that their marriage is on the rocks. Now a divorce announcement and nasty fight for their twins could be imminent.

As Woman’s Day previously reported, Amal missed out on George’s annual Casamigos Halloween party in Las Vegas last year and tensions between the pair are said to have erupted after a heated argument over their differing lifestyles.

Now it’s come to light the couple spent their fourth wedding anniversary 3900km apart. Amal attended the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, while George partied with friends in LA.

This separation is convincing friends and family alike that all is not well in their once rosy marriage. “George and Amal have spent hardly any time together lately and people are questioning if their marriage is collapsing, especially as they weren’t together for their anniversary,” a close source tells Woman’s Day.

But if a divorce is on the horizon, the biggest heartache for the pair will be who gets the kids. And it’s believed – after not being photographed with his 18-month-old twins Alexander and Ella for 187 days – Hollywood heartthrob George would be quick to call in the lawyers.

FIRST-CLASS FEUD

The rumour mill’s abuzz that the actor is ready to go head to head with his 40-year-old barrister wife if a divorce does occur, and friends say he wouldn’t stop until his kids were by his side. “George has a great relationship with the children and he’s with them every second he can be, but Amal is the one who’s photographed with them all the time,” says our source.

“He’s an amazing dad and absolutely adores Ella and Alexander. If he and Amal did go their separate ways, they’d both do whatever they could to have as much time with the kids as possible.”

George and Amal married in Venice, Italy, in September 2014, although in recent months little’s been done to quash speculation they’re sleeping in separate bedrooms and are on the verge of a $1 billion divorce.

“People were over the moon for George when he finally found The One, and the last thing anyone wants is for this marriage to crumble,” our insider confirms to Woman’s Day.

LEGAL BATTLE

If the A-list duo do decide to get a divorce, things would inevitably get messy. George is worth an estimated $500 million and sold his Casamigos tequila company for $1 billion, meaning there would be a mega fortune to play for.

And while the 57-year-old star could afford the best divorce lawyers in the country, human rights barrister Amal has all the brains and legal experience – as well as the best legal contacts – to take him on and get her fair share.

It goes without saying, though, the biggest battle would be over custody of the twins and not about money.

“Amal may take them with her when she’s travelling for work, but George wouldn’t want to be without Ella and Alexander. They both adore their children and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they each fought for full custody,” adds our insider.

“Hopefully, they’ll realise what’s best for the children is to have both of their parents in their lives. Everyone is keeping everything crossed it doesn’t come to that and George and Amal can make their marriage last.”
