FABRIC DYE SPECKLED EGGS

SKILL LEVEL: EASY

-

Step 1

Mix the Tulip dyes in the provided bottles as per the brand’s instructions.

Step 2

Firstly, to make base colour, place one egg into a small bowl and cover it with some dye. Do not use all of the dye as you will need some more later to make the speckled effect. Spoon the dye over the egg to completely cover. Once the egg is the desired colour intensity, remove egg carefully with spoon and let the egg dry on the cake cooling rake.

Step 3

Place some water in another clean bowl to the same depth as one of the eggs. Gently pour in about 5mm of oil and allow to settle on the top of the water.

Step 4

Gently add some drops of contrast colour dye to the top of the oil. Do not squirt the dye in forcefully as it will go beneath the oil cover and not stick to the egg once it emerges.

Step 5

Dip the egg into the bowl with the oil and dye. Remove egg and place on the cooling rack to dry. Once the dye on the egg is dry, pat off any excess oil from the egg’s surface.

Step 6

If you would like to add some more coloured speckles to the egg, you can repeat the previous step.
