ROAD-TRIPPING WITH A TODDLER!

Mum-of-one, travel blogger and entrepreneur EMMA BARR shares her advice

THE PERFECT PLAN

Our [one-year-old] son is massively active, so making sure he has had a run and play before any long car trip is super important. Planning your stops around any playgrounds is a great way to schedule some breaks. We never go for more than 90 minutes unless it’s over his lunchtime nap.

ALLOW SCREEN TIME

While we try to avoid id screen ti time as much as possible when we’re road-tripping, we downloaded his favourite TV shows and a couple of movies onto an ipad. We know that will keep him entertained for an hour or so.

STOCK UP ON SNACKS

Food is always a great diversion. Sultanas or peanuts that they have to pick up one at a time will keep them entertained, as well as anything in containers. Our son loves lunchboxes that have multiple sections – he will spend ages moving things around!

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Planning your drive around [your child’s] naps will save you a lot of stress. Also, if you can manage it, driving over a meal time can work, too, and feeding them in their car seat will involve some easy and manageable downtime.
